EC Sets Dates for Local Government Councils By-elections

The Electoral Commission has released the programme for purposes of conducting by-elections for Local Government Councils, including Special Interest Groups (SIGs), in electoral areas across the country, where vacancies exist.

A total of fifty-six (56) vacancies for Chairpersons and Councillors, which occurred as a result of deaths and resignations, will be filled in the various Local Government Councils within twenty-six (26) districts across the country.

EC Extends Period for the Compilation of Village Women Residents Register

The Electoral Commission is compiling a Register of Women Residents in each village/cell across Uganda to enable all willing female residents aged 18 years and above, to register in order to participate in Women Councils and Committees Elections, 2022, within their respective villages.

The compilation (registration) exercise commenced on Friday 10th June 2022 and was scheduled to close on Monday, 13th June 2022.

EC sets dates for Soroti East Constituency Parliamentary By-election

The Electoral Commission has released the electoral programme for by-election of Member of Parliament for Soroti East Constituency, in Soroti City.

During the electoral programme, the Commission will also fill the vacancy for City Division Directly-elected Councillor for Pioneer Ward in Soroti City.

The by-election programme will commence with an update of the National Voters’ Register from 10th to 14th June, 2022 at update stations in each of the thirteen wards (parishes) in Soroti East Constituency.

EC Issues Programme for Women Councils and Committees Elections

The current Women Councils and Committees were elected during the period June – August 2018, and the Executive Committee of the National Women’s Council was constituted on 23rd - 24 August 2018. According to the National Women’s Council Act, the terms of office of the said Councils and Committees is four (4) years, implying their term will elapse in August 2022. Accordingly, the Electoral Commission did earlier issue the programme for the elections of Women Councils and Committees Elections from the village to the national level.

EC sets dates for Omoro County Parliamentary By-election

The Electoral Commission has released the electoral programme for by-election of Member of Parliament for Omoro County Constituency, Omoro District.

During the electoral programme, the Commission will also fill the vacancy for District Woman Councillor representing Lalogi/Lakwaya Electoral Area, Omoro District.

The by-election programme will commence with an update of the National Voters’ Register from 14th to 19th April 2022, at update stations in each of the thirty-seven (37) parishes in Omoro County Constituency.

EC Starts Verification of Administrative Units

ELECTORAL COMMISSION STARTS EXERCISE TO VERIFY ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS COUNTRYWIDE

The Electoral Commission has kicked off a 10-day exercise to verify and confirm all the administrative units (villages and parishes) across the country.

According to the Chairperson, Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the field exercise will start today, Thursday 17th March 2022 and will be concluded on 26th March 2022 in all districts and cities across the country.

The Electoral Commission has approved the programme for conducting by-elections to fill vacancies which exist in Local Government Councils in at least one hundred and ten (110) districts across the country.

Polling Date for Residual Local Gov't Councils Elections, 2021

The Electoral Commission conducted Local Government Councils Elections countrywide for City/District Chairpersons and Councillors; Municipality and City Division Chairpersons and Councillors; Councillors representing Special Interest Groups to District/City Local Government Councils; and Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors.   

However, some electoral areas in different parts of the country were not able to conduct or conclude the elections due to various reasons.

Publishing of the Final Results for Presidential Elections 2021

The Electoral Commission conducted Presidential Elections on Thursday 14th January 2021. By law, the results for Presidential Elections must be declared within 48 hours from the closure of polls. The polls closed at 4:00pm on Thursday 14th January and the forty-eight hours expired at 4:00pm on Saturday 16th January 2021.
