Campaign and Polling Dates for 2021 General Elections

The Electoral Commission conducted the nomination of candidates for Local Government Councils and Parliamentary Elections, from 21st September to 5th October and on 15th and 16th October 2021, respectively. The nomination exercise attracted a high number of aspirants who include party-sponsored candidates and independents. The Commission is compiling the details of all nominated candidates and will publish the results in due course.

Revision of Polling Date for District/City Youth Committees

The Electoral Commission informs the general public and particularly members of Youths electoral college, that the elections of District and City Youth Committees, which were scheduled to be conducted on Friday 16th October 2020, have been postponed to Monday 19th October 2020. The postponement has been made to enable smooth conduct of nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections, which will be conducted on 15th and 16th October 2020, at the respective District/City Headquarters.

Guidelines for Nomination of Candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2021

The Electoral Commission has appointed Thursday 15th and Friday 16th October 2020 as the dates for nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2021. The nominations shall be conducted at the respective district/city headquarters across the country, beginning at 9:00am and ending at 5:00pm on each of the appointed dates. An aspiring candidate for Member of Parliament shall be a citizen of Uganda and a registered voter.

Revision of Dates for Nomination of Candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2021

Following presentations from various stakeholders including the Parliament of Uganda on the above subject matter, the Electoral Commission has revised the programme for the nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2021, from Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th 2020, to Thursday 15th and Friday 16th October 2020.

The nominations shall be conducted at the respective District/City headquarters across the country, beginning at 9:00am and ending at 5:00pm on each of the appointed dates.

Extension of Period for Nomination of Candidates for Local Government Councils Elections

Due to high numbers of aspirants at the nomination centers since the beginning of the exercise, and in accordance with the powers vested in the Commission under Section 50 of the Electoral Commission Act, the Electoral Commission has taken a decision to extend the nomination exercise, which was scheduled to close on Thursday 1st October 2020, for four (4) more days, that is, from Friday 2nd October to Monday 5th October 2020, including Saturday and Sunday, after which, there will be no further extension.

Press Release Demarcation of Parliamentary Constituencies and Local Gov't Areas for 2021 Elections

In accordance with Article 63(2) of the Constitution, the Electoral Commission will, commencing Monday 31st August 2020 until Friday 4th September 2020 conduct field activities for the purpose of demarcating Constituencies for the 2020/2021 General Elections.

The activities will involve conducting consultative meetings with stakeholders in each district to confirm Administrative Units that constitute the Counties, City Divisions and Municipalities and defining boundaries of these units.

Demarcation of Parliamentary Constituencies and Other Activities Related to the Roadmap for 2020/2021 General Elections

As part of the preparations for the conduct of the 2020/2021 General Elections, the Electoral Commission released a detailed Roadmap on 11th December 2018. The Roadmap, which was shared with all stakeholders in the electoral process, formed the basis for the overall planning and budgeting for the General Elections.
