Programme for By-Election of Representatives of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) to Parliament, 2017 

The Electoral Commission has approved the programme for by-election of two (2) Representatives of

Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), as follows:

2. Compilation of Register for Display for election of PWD`s Committees in Kagadi, Kakumiro, Omoro and Rubanda Districts 12th – 13th June 2017

Display of Registers for Election of PWDs Committees at Office of the Returning Officer (Kagadi, Kakumiro, Omoro and Rubanda)

19th – 28th June 2017

4.

Polling Day for Election of PWDs Committees for Kagadi, Kakumiro, Omoro and Rubanda districts

4th July 2017

5.

Display of the PWDs Electoral College Voters’ Register at EC Headquarters and National Council for Disability Headquarters

7th – 17th July 2017

6.

Nomination of Candidates for PWDs Representatives to Parliament at Electoral Commission Headquarters, Kampala

10th – 11th July 2017

7.

Period for inspection of candidates’ nomination papers and lodging of complaints at EC Headquarters, Kampala

11th – 16th July 2017

8.

Campaigns

12th – 23rd July

9.

Production and issuance of accreditation tags to Political Parties and Organisations and accredited observers

12th – 21st July 2017

10.

Polling Day (National Delegates’ Conference for Election of Persons With Disabilities Representatives to Parliament)

24th – 26th July 2017

Please carefully note the following: 

1. An aspiring candidate for the by-election of Representative of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to Parliament must fulfill the requirements for nomination of a Member of Parliament;

2. The by-election of  the two (2) Representatives of Persons With Disabilities (PWD) to Parliament shall be by secret ballot using the National Electoral College, comprising of five (5) delegates drawn from each of District PWD electoral structure:

  1. Chairperson;
  2. Vice Chairperson;
  3. Secretary;
  4. Publicity Secretary;
  5. Treasurer;

3. The Electoral Commission will announce the venue for the national delegates conference in due course;

4. The detailed guidelines for by-election are available at the Electoral Commission Head Office and can also be downloaded at www.ec.or.ug

5. The Electoral Commission calls upon all stakeholders to participate in the above activities in accordance with the guidelines for this by-election.
