The Electoral Commission, which is established under Article 60 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and mandated to conduct public elections and referenda, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with proven integrity and initiative, who are results oriented, able to work in teams under minimum supervision, and with excellent skills in client care to fill vacant positions within its establishment.

Application forms can be picked from offices of the Electoral Commission within the Karamoja Region, i.e. Moroto, Kaabong, Amudat, Kotido, Nakapiripirit, Abim and Napak. They can also be downloaded from the Electoral Commission website at www.ec.or.ug. Duly filled application forms should be returned to the office of the District Registrar/Returning Officer not later than 29th August, 2014.

The date and venue for conducting interviews will be communicated through the office of the District Registrar/Returning Officer in each of the districts indicated above by announcements on local radios.

A short list of candidates will be pinned at the office of the District Registrar/Returning Officer in the respective districts. Successful candidates will be informed through the same office and will be issued appointment letters.

Copies of academic certificates, a comprehensive CV with two referees, day time telephone contact and two passport size photos should be attached to the application form.

Vacancy:                      Election Officer/Assistant District Registrar

Salary Scale:                   ECS 5
Duty Station:                  Any District Electoral Commission Office in Karamoja Region.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Reports to the District Registrar/Returning Officer.
  2. Assist in drawing and implementing work plans for the District Electoral Commission office.
  3. Maintain records for the District Electoral Commission equipment and re-usable materials.
  4. Compile periodic District Electoral Commission reports.
  5. Supervise subordinate staff.
  6. Monitoring electoral activities in the district; nominations, campaigns and polling.
  7. Counter signatory to the district Electoral Commission bank account.
  8. Counter sign payment vouchers.
  9. Minute Secretary to District meetings.
  10. Any other official duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
  2. Computer knowledge is an added advantage.
  3. Being a registered voter is an added advantage.

Preferred skills and Competencies:

  1. Ability to command respect.
  2. Excellent interpersonal and team work skills.
  3. Capacity to work with senior personalities in different occupations.
  4. Analytical and problem solving skills.
  5. Ability to work under tight deadlines.

Vacancy:                      Election Assistant/Copy Typist

Department:                   Human Resource Management
Reports to:                    District Registrar.
Salary Scale:                   ECS 8
Duty Station:                  Any District Electoral Commission office within Karamoja Region.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carrying out typing duties.
  2. Receiving office visitors and telephone calls.
  3. Receiving and filing office correspondences / mails.
  4. Dispatching outgoing mails.
  5. Operating communication equipment in the office.
  6. General administration of the District Registrar’s office.
  7. Keeping and accounting for office imprest.
  8. Performing any official duties as assigned.

Minimum academic qualifications:

  1. A Certificate in Secretarial Studies from a recognized institution;
  2. Possession of a Diploma in Secretarial Studies is an added advantage.

 

Preferred skills and competencies:

  1. Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  2. High moral character and proven integrity.
  3. Good interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to work under tight deadlines.

Duty Station:                   District Electoral Commission office within Karamoja Region.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reports to the District Registrar.
  2. Driving the allocated vehicle.
  3. Safely parking the vehicle after work.
  4. Keeping the vehicle clean.
  5. Routine vehicle check ups
  6. Reporting mechanical faults to the responsible officer.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Uganda Certificate of Education (O level).
  2. Possession of a clean and valid Driving Permit with at least class B.
  3. Driving experience of at least three years.
  4. Knowledge of spoken English and any local language spoken in the Karamoja region.

Preferred skills and competencies / added advantage:

  1. Defensive driving skills
  2. Mechanical knowledge
  3. Driving experience in a government institution or reputable organization.

Age limit: 25-35 years
