EC Sets Dates for Local Gov't Councils By-elections

The Electoral Commission has approved the programme for conducting by-elections to fill vacancies which exist in Local Government Councils in at least one hundred and ten (110) districts across the country.

Polling Date for Residual Local Gov't Councils Elections, 2021

The Electoral Commission conducted Local Government Councils Elections countrywide for City/District Chairpersons and Councillors; Municipality and City Division Chairpersons and Councillors; Councillors representing Special Interest Groups to District/City Local Government Councils; and Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors.   

However, some electoral areas in different parts of the country were not able to conduct or conclude the elections due to various reasons.

Publishing of the Final Results for Presidential Elections 2021

The Electoral Commission conducted Presidential Elections on Thursday 14th January 2021. By law, the results for Presidential Elections must be declared within 48 hours from the closure of polls. The polls closed at 4:00pm on Thursday 14th January and the forty-eight hours expired at 4:00pm on Saturday 16th January 2021.

Elections of Councillors for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to City/District Local Government Councils and Kampala Capital City Authority

The Electoral Commission appointed Wednesday 27th January 2021, as the date for elections of Councillors representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Older Persons, Workers and Youth to City/District Local Government Councils and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Features on Ballot Papers for Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Elections, 2021

The Electoral Commission appointed Wednesday 3rd February 2021 as the polling day for elections of Chairpersons and Councillors for Sub County/Town/Municipal Division.

Voting shall be by universal adult suffrage, and shall take place at all polling stations in all the Sub Counties, Town Councils and Municipal Divisions, across the country, beginning at 7:00am till 4:00pm.

Thereafter, counting of votes and declaration of results shall take place.

EC Starts Issuing Voter Location Slips

The Electoral Commission will issue Voter Location Slips to voters across the country to enable them conveniently locate their respective polling stations on polling day. The Voter Location Slips (VLS) will be issued for a period of ten (10) days, from Sunday 3rd to Tuesday 12th January 2021 at each Parish/Ward across the country.

EC Suspends Campaign Meetings in Specified Districts

The Electoral Commission has suspended campaign meetings of all categories of elections for the 2020/2021 General Elections in specified districts/cities. Guided by Section 12 (1)(h) of the Electoral Commission Act; Section 21 (1) and (2) of the Presidential Elections Act, 2005; Section 20(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, 2005; and Section 172 of the Local Governments Act, campaign meetings for all elective offices are suspended with immediate effect, in the Districts/Cities of Jinja (Jinja City inclusive), Kabale, Kalungu, Masaka (Masaka City inclusive), Tororo, Kampala, Luwero, Waki

EC Starts Packing Polling Materials for General Elections 2021

The Electoral Commission has started the packing of ballot papers and Declaration of Results Forms for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, whose polling shall take place on 14th January 2021. The packing process is expected to take a period of seven days, after which the Commission will embark on the second round of packing materials for District/City Local Government Councils Elections.

Nomination of Candidates for Election of MP Representing Special Interest Groups

The Electoral Commission has appointed Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd December 2020 as the dates for nomination of candidates for election of Member of Parliament representing Workers, Youths, Persons with Disabilities and Older Persons. The nominations shall be conducted at the Electoral Commission Headquarters, Plot 55 Jinja Road, Kampala, beginning at 9:00am and ending at 5:00pm on each of the appointed dates.
